Types of Healthcare



Healthcare, health care, or medical care is the medical care or maintenance of health through the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, recovery, or palliation of various physical and psychological impairments of people. It includes all medical practitioners as well as other health professionals that provide care to patients suffering from various illnesses.


The definition of healthcare has been evolving since the 1800s. Medical care was initially known as the care of the sick. Later, it came to be understood that medical care includes prevention and therapy of disorders and diseases and their complications. This type of health care helps a patient to maintain a healthy life.


It is difficult to pinpoint an exact date when medical care began. A person may claim to have received care since he or she was born. Many people do not actually know what healthcare means. The term was first used in reference to health care services offered to military personnel during World War II. The term was later applied to services provided by physicians, chiropractors, doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes.


Today, healthcare services are available in different forms. They range from general health care to specialized treatment of medical conditions. There are health insurance plans that cover specific types of healthcare services such as surgery, hospitalization, and some medications. There are also private health insurance plans, such as employer-sponsored group health insurance, that cover healthcare. Some health insurance plans also cover preventive care and prescriptions.


Healthcare services are also provided by other sources, such as government and non-government organizations. Examples of public organizations include state, federal, county, and municipal governments; non-profit organizations; voluntary organizations; religious organizations; community health service agencies; and private non-governmental organizations. These are organizations, such as the Red Cross and World Health Organization, that provide health care to low-income and uninsured individuals.


One form of healthcare is called a comprehensive healthcare plan. Comprehensive healthcare plans cover all the major medical services. These are services that do not necessarily have to be covered by insurance plans, such as diagnostic imaging tests and prescription drugs. Comprehensive healthcare plans cover preventative measures, treatments, and medicines that are part of preventive medicine and are necessary to treat various diseases, ailments, disabilities, or conditions.


A fee for healthcare service is an installment or payment for medical services that is given directly by the health care provider to the individual or the family. A fee-for-service system may be arranged by an insurer, a doctor, a hospital, a home health agency, or a nursing home. Most of these pay for all services that are rendered in the course of treating and preventing diseases, ailments, injuries, and injuries. Fee-for-service insurance usually pays a portion of the cost of the service but does not always cover all of it.


Insurance companies pay a portion of the costs of healthcare services when the insured person needs them. It also provides cover for specific treatments. The amount paid is usually determined by the insurance company. This type of insurance can also cover certain procedures and equipment, which are not necessarily covered by Medicare or Medicaid.


Medicare, otherwise known as the Medicare Program, is a Federal program that provides healthcare services for individuals with Medicare eligibility. The Medicare Program reimburses the insurance company for the cost of healthcare services. The type of healthcare coverage provided by Medicare depends on the policy coverage of the insured person. An HMO, or Health Maintenance Organization Plan, is an HMO-type plan that covers only medically necessary healthcare services for the insured person. When the insured person goes to a hospital, the HMO will cover the hospital bills.


Private insurance is offered in many different rates to suit different needs and budgets. Some insurance providers offer discounts for those who pay for their healthcare in full each month. Others provide discounts for annual or monthly premiums. There are also group health insurance plans that cover many people at one time.
